As the largest independent Swiss-based sustainability rating agency (founded 2001), INrate analyses and rates the ethical, ecological and social sustainability of companies, institutions and countries worldwide. These sustainability ratings provide the basis for our investment universes, which offer investors and portfolio managers information to create sustainable and financially attractive products and investments.

Excellence through “best in service”

INrate’s methodological approach “best in service” (vs. best in class) promotes strong incentives for structural changes towards a more sustainable economy and society by comparing companies which offer comparable services to their clients beyond traditional branches. In the service-sector “mobility” for example, car manufacturers, train and shipping companies are compared to identify the most eco- and socioefficient solutions for transporting people and freight. “Best in service” thus rises the sustainability level through transsectoral comparison and is highly selective: The tobacco, oil, automobile or nuclear industries as they function today are not considered sustainable. However, companies with future-oriented solutions such as renewable energy, energy-efficient mobility or fair trade are over proportionally taken into account.

Attractive investment possibilities like emerging markets as well as thematical subjects such as energy, sustainable mobility, food or health can be developed through our universes. The strict external control of our independent committee of experts and the broad access to resources and competence in an international and interdisciplinary network of experts qualify our comprehensive services. Since we operate independently from banks we have the freedom to make rating judgments appropriate and free of conflicts.
